Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions about therapy at Salonia Singh Therapy and Associates.

  • Yes. Our practice was founded by a South Asian therapist and we specialize in supporting South Asian and BIPOC individuals and couples. We understand the intersection of cultural expectations, family dynamics, and mental health in South Asian communities.

  • We offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and EMDR therapy. Our therapists are trained in Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, psychodynamic therapy, and narrative therapy.

  • Our rates range from $150 to $250 per 50-minute session. We do not accept insurance but can provide a superbill so you can seek reimbursement from your insurance provider. Sliding scale fees may be available based on financial need.

  • We are out-of-network with all insurance providers. However, we can provide a monthly superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Many PPO plans offer out-of-network benefits.

  • EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a research-backed therapy that helps the brain process distressing memories and experiences. It uses guided bilateral stimulation while you briefly focus on a difficult memory, helping your brain reprocess it so it no longer triggers the same emotional response. It is effective for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, relationship patterns, and self-esteem.

  • The Gottman Method is a couples therapy approach developed from over 40 years of research on what makes relationships succeed or fail. It focuses on building friendship and trust, improving communication, managing conflict in healthy ways, and creating shared meaning. Our couples therapists are Gottman Level 1 and Level 2 trained.

  • Yes. We offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for individuals and couples throughout California. Both partners can join from different locations if needed.

  • This varies depending on your goals and what you are working through. Some clients see significant progress in 10 to 12 sessions. Others benefit from longer-term therapy over one to two years. We discuss your goals from the start and check in regularly on your progress.

  • When you book a free consultation, we will ask about your needs, preferences, and goals and match you with the therapist on our team who is the best fit. You are not locked in — if the fit does not feel right after a session or two, we will help you find the right match.

  • A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) holds a master's degree in clinical psychology or counseling and is licensed to provide individual, couples, and family therapy. A psychologist typically holds a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) and may offer psychological testing in addition to therapy. Both are fully qualified to provide effective therapy.

Who We Help

We work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, imposter syndrome, career transitions, identity questions, people-pleasing patterns, self-esteem, family conflict, breakups, and major life changes. Whether you are experiencing a crisis or simply feeling stuck, individual therapy gives you dedicated time and space to explore what is not working and build something better.

Many of our clients are high-achieving, self-aware people from South Asian and BIPOC backgrounds who have spent their lives holding everything together. Therapy is the one place where you do not have to.

Our Approach

Our individual therapy sessions draw from multiple evidence-based modalities tailored to your specific needs and goals. These include psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR for trauma, narrative therapy, and culturally informed care. We do not use a one-size-fits-all approach. Every treatment plan is built around you.

Sessions are 50 minutes and are available in-person at our West Los Angeles and Pasadena offices, or via secure telehealth anywhere in California.
