Get to know me:
As a South Asian woman, first-generation immigrant, and mental health clinician, I bring a unique understanding of the psychological impact that growing up in a desi household can have on mental health and relationships. I specialize in supporting individuals within the South Asian diaspora as they navigate cultural expectations, family obligations, identity challenges, and life transitions.
My goal is to help you uncover the coping strategies and belief systems that have shaped your life and guide you toward making meaningful, positive changes so you can truly live the life you want.
Who I Work With:
I work with adults facing a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, marital and relationship conflict, family dynamics, career transitions, breakups and dating, people-pleasing, intergenerational trauma, imposter syndrome, childhood trauma, and life transitions.
Therapy can help you understand what isn’t working, heal past wounds, and build new patterns that support your growth and well-being.
My Approach:
I take an integrative, relational, holistic, and culturally sensitive approach to therapy. I see each client through the lens of their unique cultural background and life experiences, ensuring you feel understood in a safe and supportive space.
Anil Shah-
AMFT
I'm a biracial, second-generation American and an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who brings a culturally informed and empathetic approach to therapy. I help my clients explore issues related to positive masculinity, religious trauma, anxiety and depression, identity, and self-worth. As an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, I am dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive space where all individuals can explore their authentic selves.
My goal is to empower you to live with compassion, courage, and authenticity—whether you’re looking to heal from past wounds or strengthen the relationships that matter most. Together, we can work toward creating a future where you feel more confident, connected, and at peace.
When I’m not in the therapy room, you’ll find me hanging out with my family, soaking up the little moments that make life meaningful. I am excited to do the work with you!
OUR APPROACH
Explore Your Story to Gain Deep Insight
Empathy That Meets You Where You Are
Challenge Limits and Promote Lasting Growth
LEARNING & GROWING
The Experience Behind Our Work
Philosophy
As humans, we’re naturally curious and constantly learning from our experiences and relationships. Therapy isn’t just about learning new ways to think or behave—it’s about exploring who you are right now and understanding why you’ve become that way.
The first step is gaining insight into the coping strategies and beliefs that may be holding you back from your fullest potential. Through nervous system regulation and self-awareness, real healing can begin.
But therapy doesn’t stop at healing. Together, we’ll co-create a new story — one that reflects who you want to be, how you want to think and feel, and how you want to show up in your life. You’ll challenge old patterns and build new ones that support your highest self and bring you lasting joy.
My goal is to help you connect more deeply with your present experience, yourself, your relationships, your career, and what truly fulfills you. You deserve a life of purpose, joy, and meaningful connection—and therapy can be the catalyst that gets you there.
Education and Certifications
We take a sincere, direct, and highly engaged approach to therapy, working collaboratively to tailor each session to your unique needs. By integrating the connection between mind and body, I use nervous system regulation techniques to help you manage triggers and emotional responses.
Drawing from psychodynamic theory, we’ll explore how your childhood experiences shape your present patterns, gaining insight that fosters healing. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps promote meaningful change by identifying and shifting limiting beliefs and schemas that may be holding you back.
We also incorporate narrative therapy, empowering you to rewrite your own story in a way that aligns with your true self. Grounded in humanistic and relational theories, I prioritize the therapeutic relationship as a space where you can feel truly seen, heard, and understood.
For those interested, we can deepen the work by exploring spiritual connection and awareness, bringing added meaning to your healing journey.
Ultimately, our goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you can grow, heal, and move toward the life you want to live—one step at a time.
Approach
I graduated from the Pepperdine Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP). I then completed my clinical training at the prestigious Maple Counseling Center, focusing on a psychodynamic approach to therapy. Early in my career, I chose to specialize in culturally competent therapy and relationship counseling to best support diverse clients.
I hold certification from the Polyvagal Institute, which helped deepen my understanding of nervous system regulation in therapy. For couples I utilize the Gottman Method in couples therapy, which has equipped me with research backed tools and insight into healthy relationships. Additionally, I completed an externship in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), allowing me to support couples in building stronger, and more emotionally secure relationships.
